"I like Sturgeon Valley b/c of the friendly atmosphere, great attention to detail, several perks (even beyond what was mentioned), topnotch training staff, and a cutting-edge approach to health, including a revolutionary body fat measuring machine called the "Bod Pod", a new VO2 machine, hormone replacement therapy and blood testing. SVAC has also implemented the new "My Zone" program that measures an individual's heart rate anywhere in the club, saves the information and reveals an individual's exertion level throughout each stage of their workout (this is all saved on line). I don't know of another club in the Capital Region that can provide these things. It is true, there is no pool, but it should be noted the workout area at Servus is so busy (often with teens) that it can be very difficult to get on the strength-training machines; and the change rooms are very, very small and are not nearly as clean as SVAC. As well, Sturgeon Valley now offers a person the ability to mix and match classes they want to take, thus providing variety in one package. Also, the childcare area is very well designed with lots to do (jungle gym, balls, colouring, Sat AM children's exercise program, and many more things). I have been going to Sturgeon Valley Athletic Club for almost 9 years and would not leave"

"I have only recently joined Sturgeon Valley Athletic Club and have been attending the facility on a regular basis for about two months now. I had looked into purchasing a membership in the past but the initial fees were too high for my budget. Upon trying out some of the other facilities in the area I just wasn't satisfied in terms of staff, equipment and overall feeling of comfort. I returned a few months later to learn that they had dropped these fees and signed up right away. I have refereed co workers there since attending and am thrilled with not only the facility as a whole but the excellent customer service I have received thus far. Thank You!"

"LOVE LOVE LOVE this gym! It is absolutely addicting and the PERFECT place to work out. We switched from Servus place and never looked back. They have TONS of CARDIO and WEIGHTS machines, and keep adding more all the time, and it's state of the art equipment too. They gym is never too busy to have to wait for equipment (unlike servus place which gets ridiculous), the atmosphere at this gym is awesome. I also can't say enough about the massage chair in women's change room (oh so relaxing after a workout!), or sauna and steam room! To top it all off, the MEMBERS LOUNGE with free Starbucks coffee and tea, and free snack or delicious sandwiches and heavenly soup after a workout is just unbelievable. I can spend hours at this gym, and I don't want to ever leave. I've been a member of many gyms over the years, and there is no gym that comes even close. I've never seen a gym that hands out cool face towels to members during their workout anywhere else but here.
They are planning to renovate showers in near future which could be the only minor minor point you could not rave about.
Sure if you only do classes, perhaps it can be pricey, but you get what you pay for.
PLAYCARE - absolutely awesome, my kids LOVE it there, is the perfect play place they are looking forward to going all week. The staff is wonderful, and my kids ADORE them. It is not just a place to drop your kids off while you work out, the staff will actually interact with the kids, engage them in activities, sing and dance, even do "Mousercise" twice a week!"

"This gym has advantages and disadvantages depending on what you are looking for. I personally prefer it over any of the other gyms I have tried in the St. Albert area: Servus, World Health, etc.
Advantages (in my opinion):
*Free plyo and spin classes at hours that are appropriate for hitting the gym before work. (All of the instructors are excellent.)
* Plenty of "free" perks such as Starbucks coffee and towel service.
* Lots of equipment and studios to accommodate whatever type of workout you're looking for (minus a track like Servus or Olympic weights, but that doesn't matter to me personally).
* Enough clean showers that I have never had to wait, even during the morning rush.
* Plenty of well lit, vanity space for putting on makeup/doing hair, etc.
* Friendly, helpful staff and excellent programs such as the "bodpod challenge" which you won't find at any other gym in the area.
Disadvantages (in my opinion, while noting that no gym is perfect):
* The cost. To many people (myself included) this gym is worth the price you pay. The target clientele of this gym is clearly not students looking for a basic gym.
* The cancellation policy (being charged for not showing up) for the free classes is only enforced if a person signs up. Plenty of people show up without signing up and this creates problems if you are not early for class as the classes get crowded quickly and some instructors set up equipment for only the number of people who are signed up for the class. (People who do not sign up will take these spots.)
* The above point is more a reflection on the gym members than the gym, although instructors should be more diligent on enforcing the rules. Generally gym members are positive and friendly, but there is often an air of entitlement with many gym members.
* Not all of the trainers will require their clients to wipe down the equipment after using it and will sometimes leave clipboards etc in the way of other people wanting to use benches etc.
Overall, I would highly recommend this gym."

"I love this gym! After working out at a few other gyms in this area, I can't say enough good things about sturgeon valley athletic club. The atmosphere is calming with low lit lights and no loud music, the amenities are beautifully kept and best of all is the childcare center. My girls (age 4 & 2) love it here! They ask to go all the time! No words do it justice...you must see it to believe it. The "jungle gym" makes McDonald's, chuckie cheese, etc look tiny! And best part? It's clean!! Can't say that about those other play places ;). I totally reccomend this gym!!"

"I have been going to various gyms and work out facility's for most of my adult life. However it wasn't until I joined Sturgeon Valley Athletic club that I finally saw the results that I was looking for. The reason for this is simply the staff. Highly trained to assess and advise. They gave me the motivation and tools to succeed. From the on site lockers and laundry facility's for my work out gear to the cold towel service and the very experienced on site trainers and body recovery specialists ( massage and physio). The monthly cost of my membership is well worth the price for an exclusive and hassle free environment."

"When my Membership came up for renewal, I thought I would shop around and try a facility at a lower price point. But I found that I missed all the "extras" at SVAC and now I'm thrilled to be back as a Member!"
G.T. - March 2012
"I took a break from SVAC and tried a cheaper facility but I didn't feel comfortable in that environment and wasn't using it anyway. So I'm back at Sturgeon Valley and LOVING it!"
H.M - February 2012
"I cannot express the gratitude I have felt for you, the staff and members of the gym as you have welcomed us and made great efforts to embrace our family as part of your community. It is with sadness that we have moved on, we will miss you all".

"SVAC is FANTASTIC! I have lived in many cities and it is by far the best gym. Playcare is phenomenal! We are moving out of St. Albert but hope to be back and will definitely return to SVAC at that time!"
D. Smith, May 2009
"I really like the Member's Lounge. It adds a lot to the Club and encourages / achieve a more social, welcoming and "Member" feel. At times, the idea of a nice cup of Tazo tea becomes a motivator to get to the gym"
R. Maxfield, April 2008
" ... Thank you for the wonderful service and professional staff that we have had the pleasure to get to know over our last 8 years in St. Albert. The renovations look great - really freshens the place up!"
D. Juzwishin, PhD, Chief Executive Officer, Health Council of Canada
" Thank you for running such an amazing facility ! From the initial tour I knew I would be happy coming back to the Club after a few years off. It is more than just going to the gym - I am so pleased to see the changes with the Wellness Centre approach. After having enjoyed several spa vacations, it is nice to have a little bit of that here each time I work out. I look forward to each visit and can't wait for the next. The Playcare has been fantastic - my girls love it ! It is a treat for all three of us to enjoy some time at the Club. Thank you for the continued improvements!"
E.E. - September 2007
"Just wanted to say how impressed I am with the changes that continue to happen at our gym - small and big things ! Thank you for always striving to make it better"
S.J. - August 2007
"Big thanks for the continued wonderful services and support available at SVAC. We are truly spoiled by the Staff in the gym and Wellness Centre. It all makes woking out so easy. I can't imagine going anywhere else"

"I have just moved to Spruce Grove and regretfully must discontinue my Membership at SVAC. I have always been greatly impressed by the Club, in particular the child care facility (Playcare) who's personnel (notably Manon) have been outstanding in all respects. The Club itself is one of the best standards I have ever seen and I wish the Club all the best.
L. Jepsen - September 2007
“ .. Just wanted to voice a compliment for the Club facilities and personnel. I have been traveling for work … and trying to keep a fitness schedule can be tough .. I have found a variety of facilities in Calgary , Banff , Edmonton , Penticton , Red Deer , Regina , Vancouver and Victoria . I have to say that SVAC has THE BEST facility and staff, bar none. The YMCA in Downtown Victoria , the Westin Hotel in downtown Calgary and the Sally Borden facility in Banff tie for second place. All are great, but each is missing something we have—room, staff, atmosphere, steam room … Keep up the good work. And pass on huge kudos and thanks to the staff—especially those who manage a friendly smile as they open the doors early in the morning. When it’s this good, there really is no place like home” .
Hans Forbrich, 8 year SVAC Club Member
"Unfortunately we have to discontinue our Membership as we are moving to Ontario. We have really enjoyed our Membership as well as the Playcare and Cafe. We have been so fortunate to have found everything we want as a family in this Club. We could only dream of finding a facility such as yours, anywhere else. Thank you to everyone at your front desk for their friendly warm service and smiles everyday ! Thanks again, your Club will be greatly missed".
Julie & Andrew Logie, April 2007
"Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy the new eye glass cleaner"
"I moved to Red Deer due to an employment relocation and have joined a gym there. But nothing comes close to SVAC ! Any chance of opening one down here ?
G. Ellert, September 2006
"As you know, for renewing our gym Membership at SVAC, we received a very generous batch of gift certificates to try the various services and amenities the Club has to offer. Yesterday, I spent the gift certicate for a facial with Tamara Klein (while my daughters were having a blast in Playcare). I had no idea what a treat I was about to receive ! Previously it had never occurred to me to have a facial, and the gift certificate gave me the excuse to give it a try. I was so impressed, I bought a gift certificate to give to a friend, and I will certainly be indulging in more pampering with Tamara in the future. I want to Thank You Tamara, for making the experience a possibility. By the way, the gift certificates for renewing are very much appreciated, even if we don't take advantage of them all. I have to ask: Isn't it enough just to have such a great gym available ?"

"I would like to thank you for allowing us to use the Seminar Room in your Club for a program that St. Albert Parents Place recently ran. Many thanks to businesses such as yours that are so community minded. This is what makes our community such a great one !"

"Our family wants to Thank You very kindly for drawing our number at the St. Albert Half Marathon. We were fortunate enough to have won the one year family Membership at SVAC, and it could not have come at a better time ! Thank you so much ! We are all loving your facility. Our 4 year old daughter and 2.5 year old son really enjoy Playcare and we feel comfortable leaving them there. Many thanks for your generosity"
